Individual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
iCST

Individual Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (iCST) is an evidence-based program for people with mild to moderate dementia, adapted from group Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. It improves:

  • Cognition

  • Quality of life

  • The caregiving relationship

What is it?

One to one allocated time is set aside for the carer and person with dementia to carry out an activity:

  • 30-minute sessions

  • 3 times a week

  • For 25 weeks

Each session includes:

  • A themed activity such as life stories, creative tasks, or discussing current events

  • Mental stimulation and meaningful interaction

Benefits of iCST

There are many benefits to iCST, including:

  • Encourages engagement and cognitive activity

  • Strengthens the bond between carer and person with dementia

  • Reduces carer stress and supports emotional well-being

  • Flexible for use at home or in care settings
